USB 3 0 Akan Segera Hadir

Organisasi USB 3.0 Promoter Group mengumumkan spesifikasi resmi standar terbaru teknologi USB 3.0.

Standar baru ini dinamakan USB 3.1 dan menawarkan peningkatan dua kali lipat generasi sebelumnya. Jika USB 3.0 “hanya” menawarkan kecepatan 5Gbps, USB 3.1 ini memiliki kecepatan 10Gbps. Artinya, USB 3.1 menawarkan kecepatan yang sama dibanding pesaingnya, Thunderbolt, yang banyak digunakan di perangkat Apple.

Selain kecepatan, USB 3.1 juga memberikan power delivery yang lebih tinggi. Lewat kabel pendukung, USB 3.1 dapat mengalirkan daya sampai 100 Watt. Secara teori, daya sebesar itu memungkinkan kita mengisi ulang baterai notebook menggunakan kabel USB dari TV, PC desktop, atau bahkan power bank. Sayangnya, perangkat USB 3.0 yang ada saat ini tidak bisa di-upgrade ke USB 3.1, namun USB 3.1 tetap kompatibel dengan USB generasi sebelumnya.

Spesifikasi resmi USB 3.1 sendiri tidak banyak berubah dari draft yang dikeluarkan pada awal tahun 2013 ini. Pihak USB 3.0 Promoter Group juga langsung mengadakan roadshow ke berbagai negara mulai 21 Agustus ini untuk mendorong implementasi USB 3.1 di berbagai perangkat. Diperkirakan, produk berbasis USB 3.1 mulai muncul di akhir 2014 dan akan populer di tahun 2015.

Dengan kemunculan USB 3.1, persaingan koneksi super-cepat diperkirakan akan semakin panas. Intel sebagai pembuat Thunderbolt sendiri menjanjikan kedatangan Thunderbolt 2 yang menawarkan kecepatan mencapai 20Gbps di akhir tahun ini. Kita tunggu saja koneksi apa yang akan menjadi pemenang.
